Needed to add some color to my poster, decided it needed some texture too. To give it a vintagy feel I chose a tea stain texture, I think it will do the trick. Just lay it on my poster and switch it to multiply mode

The Sound and Vision of the Dashed Expectations

To start my creative process, I begin with the basics.  The only information the class was given for this project was the title for the band, Dashed Expectations, and the genre, Indie-Rock. Those are two pieces of crucial information, but we are missing some fine details, such as the gender of the band members. We are left to imagine in order to fill in these holes. As exciting as that might be, it can be a bit intimidating. Depending on our individual preference, we could design something attractive only for that particular gender. This leaves some of us shooting in the dark with our design. I concider myself an Indie-rock fan, I appreciate the genre, and know that although many are boy bands, as Indies/hipsters, they can appreciate the rugged style as well as the feminine.
In the description of the band, there are two simple terms used to define their style of sound, "Down home" and "delicate". Down home style of music usually focuses on a love for Folk music. Folk to me is a genre that is very old, and very natural, in a good way. Folk is rugged and fun, the imperfections of the simple rythms and melodies make it perfect and pleasing to the ear. One of my favorite bands, Mumford & Sons, are known as a Folk-Rock band, so I can create an understanding of just what "down home" should be as interpreted as.
The word "delicate" is crucial in my initial decision for the bands poster and CD design. When I think of delicate, in Indie-Rock terms, I think of another band I enjoy called The Hush Sound, they're labelled as Indie, and their vocal and instrumental melodies are brilliant.
I believe I can rely on these 2 bands to create a good image in my mind as to what style this band prefers. The Folk draws out the rugged and traditional sounds, while the delicate melodies produce a unique and comforting balance.
If only Dashed Expectations were a real band, I'd probably be a big fan =]
